Part of Screenshot tool
Take the screenshot, then add arrows, text and highlights. Mac has Markup, Windows has the Snipping Tool, and a Chrome extension like RecBeam adds blur and a share link.
What it is
An annotated screenshot adds arrows, shapes, text or highlights so the reader sees what you mean without a long explanation. It is faster than writing a paragraph and clearer than a plain image.
Mac
- Press Shift + Command + 4 for a selection, or Shift + Command + 5 for more options.
- Click the thumbnail that appears in the corner.
- Use the Markup toolbar to add shapes, text and arrows, then save.
Windows
- Press Windows + Shift + S and drag over the area.
- Open the notification to edit it in the Snipping Tool.
- Draw with the pen or highlighter, then save or copy.
Chrome with RecBeam
- Click the RecBeam icon and choose Capture this tab, or capture a window or screen through Chrome's picker.
- Crop, then add arrows, lines, rectangles, ellipses, text or a highlight.
- Pixelate anything private.
- Download a PNG or copy a private, unlisted link.
The full feature list is on the screenshot tool page, and see why teams call it the best screenshot extension for Chrome.
What to add
- One arrow per point. Too many marks hide the message.
- A short text callout where words help.
- A highlight on the exact field or number.
- Blur on names, emails and anything private.
